ABOUT
Laudato Si' Tasmania
We are working to help Tasmania's Catholic people and agencies implement the teaching of Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si' in their homes, parishes, and workplaces.
HISTORY
Earlier in 2021 Archbishop Julian Porteous appointed Fr Michael Tate PP to coordinate the Archdiocese of Hobart's response to the Laudato Si' Action Plan.
Laudato Si' Tasmania was launched at St Francis Xavier's Catholic Parish in October 2021 in tandem with the official blessing of the parish's new Laudato Si' Community Garden. Representatives of Catholic organisations signed a pledge of commitment to the endeavour.
MISSION
Laudato Si' Tasmania seeks to encourage Tasmanian Catholics to more fully embrace and live the Church's teaching on care for Creation by responding to "the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor".
This involves:
Helping coordinate action and information between Catholic individuals and agencies.
Raising public awareness of the Church's ecological teachings and actions.
Supporting parishes and individuals to embrace the teaching of Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si'.
